Storms and possibly outages
Just a reminder to everyone we are in storm season and where there is a storm there is lightening. We have had direct hits to our equipment before and have had outages. As soon as the storm is over and it's safe to climb we replace gear. Michell always tries to change the voicemail message in cases like this so if you are unsure if it's a tower outage or if it's your radio please call the office at 309.944.8823 Option 1.

Happy Birthday Tesla!
Nikola Tesla 7-10-1856 to 1-7-1943

Tesla is the most often talked about here at NBS out of all the great minds of the universe. Why you ask? Well Telsa discovered, invented, and envisioned the technology that brought life to what we do at NBS.

Tesla's first experiments with high frequency electrical currents is an example of the first wireless communication. If it wasn't for Tesla you most likely would not be surfing the web on your laptop from the comfort of your easy chair. Or you couldn't call the kids on their cell phone to find out where they are. Something so simple might not have been possible if it wasn't for Tesla's brilliant and determined mind.

Fun Facts about Tesla:

He was fired....and by Thomas Edison. Why? All over a disagreement of preferred power type. Tesla preferred AC and Edison preferred DC.

George Westinghouse purchased the patents to Tesla's induction motor which underlies the modern electrical power industry today.

While he was performing his research on high-voltage electricity and wireless communication he created an earthquake that shook the ground for several miles around his New York laboratory.

In 1915 Tesla made an unsuccessful attempt to obtain a court injunction against the claims of Marconi. When the United States Supreme Court reviewed this decision in 1943, however, it reversed the decision and invalidated Marconi's patents on the ground that they had indeed been anticipated by earlier work.

During his later years he led a secluded, eccentric, and often destitute life, nearly forgotten by the world he believed would someday honor him.

Personally I have not forgotten Telsa and his great work. I believe Telsa was the true inventor of the radio not Marconi. From now on when I hear Jefferson Starships "We Built this City" Instead of saying Marconi plays the mamba I will sing.....Tesla plays the mamba listen to the radio....oh don't you remember.....

My Ipad review

My husband brought home an Ipad almost two months ago to evaluate it as a laptop replacement for the sales staff where he works.  It was a momentous occasion in our household for one reason.  My husband dislikes Macs.  I personally think they have their place in the computer industry.

The Look…The Feel….of an Apple product is nothing short of beautiful.  As with any Apple product the look of it is simple and beautiful and it’s nice to hold in your hands.

The Function:  You can only have one application open at the same time.  This was a big downer for a person like me who is multitasks.  I have a browser open , I have Pandora running, etc.

The Apps:  I found that I have more options on the PC side of the computing world than with the Ipad.

Ultimately I’ve ended up using the Ipad to watch Netflix in bed which I’ve quit doing since it was hard to hold after about 30 minutes and there is no good way to prop it up.  Also the wireless on the Ipad isn’t as good enough for streaming video compared to our laptops.  We now only use it if we are upstairs and have forgotten to bring up our laptops and just need to check something online.

Like I've said Apple products are for certain situations. I think the Ipad is perfect for someone who lives in a very small apartment and needs to conserve on space, money, and is limited in their computer use (ie: surfing, email, Netflixs, ebooks). If you buy the Ipad and use it for computing and TV and movie entertainment needs...then it pays off. Otherwise it is a very luxurious purchase in my opinion.
